The meeting will be held at a hotel near the National Science Foundation offices in Alexandria, Virginia from May 30 to June 1, 2018.  Participant travel expenses will be paid for by the National Science Foundation.

The workshop will center around approximately 12 research topics with a small, interdisciplinary team of materials and data scientists dedicated to each problem.  Each team will be of size 4 (comprising of two materials scientists and two data scientists).  The teams and their topics will be determined in advance of the meeting as described on the Applications page.

The main activity of the workshop will be small groups collaborating on research.  Several hours each day will be dedicated to collaborators explaining their problems and techniques, brainstorming ideas, and working through data and code as a group.  The teams will also interact as a large group each morning and afternoon with short research updates followed by group discussions.
